Celebrating Progress in Challenging Times
A Fall 2020 Update
Every April and October, Historic Harrisville’s supporters, board, friends, and incorporators come together to share our progress on projects, conduct board business, socialize, and eat (of course!).
For the first year in recent memory, we've been unable to hold these gatherings because of the pandemic. In April, Executive Director Erin Hammerstedt sent out our annual report and shared highlights from the previous six months.
By October, our hope was that we would all be able to share our news in person—but we once again find ourselves sitting at home missing the camaraderie of our friends and neighbors.
But that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy: Erin, Fred, Demetri, and Becca have been working away at Historic Harrisville, while Sam and her staff at the General Store have carried on in the face of considerable challenges. We have much news to share.
In lieu of mailing out a summary or subjecting our supporters to yet another dreaded Zoom meeting, HHI has put together an informal video presentation about the past six months that we are delighted to share with you here...
Thank you & Happy Holidays
I want to thank Erin and Sam for recording their reflections on the past year, and I’m deeply grateful to composer, filmmaker, and HHI tenant L.A. Dierker for assembling the audio and photos into this video.
As you will see, we need your donations now, more than ever, and we remain grateful to everyone who continues to give their money, time, and talents to HHI. (It is hard to believe our organization will be turning 50 next year!)
A video is no substitute for sharing in-person, of course. We will miss the small talk, catching up with friends, and the delicious lunch that trustee Cathy Buffman always organizes—but we can still honor all of the accomplishments Historic Harrisville has realized in this complicated year, while also acknowledging the challenges that demand additional time and money to overcome.
And if you are new to Historic Harrisville and stumbling across this video online, we hope you will take a moment to explore our website and maybe even join us for a future annual meeting at the Granite Mill. The public is always welcome. Talk of profit and loss statements is kept to a bare minimum, and the homemade stews and desserts more than make up for it.
On behalf of the HHI board and staff, happy holidays to you and your family. Thanks for making Harrisville such a great place to live.
