Cast Your Vote & the Year in Review
A Letter from our Chairman, Bry Kingsbury
As we mark the year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, you are, I am sure, as tired of talking and hearing about it as I am. Rather than dwell on how difficult this past year has been, I want to use this opportunity to talk to you about the good and deliberate work Historic Harrisville has done.
Many of you will remember in the summer of 2019 we conducted an intensive strategic planning session that included focus groups with community members. The result of that planning was a set of goals and an action plan that we consider our roadmap for the years ahead. In many ways, 2020 did not go as planned but as our Annual Report will show, we have still managed to make a respectable start. Preservation, often thought of as our sole focus, is only one area in our purview as stewards of Historic Harrisville. Conservation, affordable housing, renewable energy, community connectedness, community outreach, and education are all equally important components of Historic Harrisville. I hope you will read Executive Director Erin Hammerstedt' s comprehensive Annual Report to learn more about what we have accomplished in these areas over this past year.
In addition to our projects, I encourage you all to stay connected with us by continuing to visit our beautiful new website. The website, designed by our own Vice Chair Michelle Aldredge with her business partner Corwin Levi, has played a pivotal role in allowing us to engage with the community in this increasingly virtual-centric world. One feature that continues to surprise us is the subtle yet effective 'donate' button. We have long relied upon generous giving by mail through our annual appeal but have found that a considerable portion of our donors enjoy making smaller, more pointed donations online to support us continuously throughout the year. This type of giving has an incredible impact particularly when we need to raise funds for individual and more focused projects. A great example of this was the raising of over our goal of $10,000 in as many days for the stained-glass windows at St. Denis. We are immensely grateful to all our donors big and small and we thank each of you for your support.
As the saying goes 'hope springs eternal' and as we approach spring, we hope to continue making strides consistent with our mission: To preserve the Town's historic significance and natural environment and to enhance the community spirit, quality of life, beauty, and economic vitality of Harrisville as a place to live and work.
Sincerely,
Bry Kingsbury
Chairman of the Board
